Welcome to our potentially endless series of how-to videos for SEO, starting with this one, part 1 – the top 3 things to know about SEO.
What is Search Engine Optimisation?
Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process making search engines LOVE your website. It’s about improving the quality of your website so that search engines like Google and Bing, will think it’s the best answer to a query.
SEO works organically. Don’t confuse it with search engine marketing and advertising, where you pay to rank at the top of search results. That’s cheating… well, ok, not really. (But it’s not not cheating.)
In any event, here is our list of the top 3 things we think it’s important to know about SEO:
3 Important things to know about SEO
1. It’s not that hard
SEO is not a big scary mysterious concept that nobody can understand. It’s not that hard. There are plenty of practical things you can do to improve the quality of your site for search, without a lot of technical knowledge.
2. It’s not that easy
There is no special trick or shortcut or piece of software that can magically get your site on page one of Google. If somebody claims to be selling such a thing they are lying to you. At best the could fail. At worst they could damage your online reputation (and it can be really hard to come back from that).
SEO takes work. There really is no way around that. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can really help speed things up, but it can’t do everything for you and there’s no substitute for a human, you can do this.
3. Content is ALWAYS King
The quality of your content is absolutely the most important factor when it comes to search optimisation. Remember, you want search engines to think your website is the best answer to a query… so make it the best answer to a query!
It boils down to this: provide valuable information in an easy-to-digest format. Of all the things to know about SEO, that is absolutely the most important.
